What is the Gomukh Trek?
Gomukh, meaning "cow's mouth" in Sanskrit, is the snout of the Gangotri Glacier β the primary source of the holy Ganges river. The trek from Gangotri to Gomukh is one of the most sacred and scenic treks in the Himalayas.
Trek Details
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Gangotri to Bhojbasa (14 km)
Start early morning from Gangotri. The trail follows the Bhagirathi river through dense forests of Bhoj (birch) trees. Camp at Bhojbasa at 3,775m.
Day 2: Bhojbasa to Gomukh and back (5 km + return)
Early morning trek to Gomukh glacier snout. Witness the emerald blue glacial lake and the majestic mountains. Return to Bhojbasa or Gangotri depending on fitness.
